If your TV have 2 HDMI inputs, hook your PS3 and cable box up with the TV by using HDMI cables , If not use a splitter as the previous poster suggests. To get surround sounds, use an optical digital audio cable to connect the TV's optic digital audio output to the receiver's optic digital audio input and switch your receiver to AUX.

Be careful when you remove the TV digital output's cover. It may look different with the cover of your receiver's digital input. Instead of simply pull the cover off like you do with your receiver's digital input, you may have to use a small flat screwdriver to break the plastic cover of the TV digital output.

Do not puncture too deep into the hole since you may damage its optic fiber.

PS. HDMI cables transmit both HD signal and digital audio signal to your TV and from it you get the digital audio signals ( surround sound or Dolby 5.1....) transferred to your receiver.

2 POINTS
buy a good reciver, with HDMI switching

I just saw a Yamaha rec. for like 349 that had 2 HDMI in and 1 out, and few optical in and out, it should work great for you
It can be done, I'm not sure how to explain it. We have 2 HDMI cables and had to buy a HDMI hub with an A-B switch, which cost about $80. before that we had to switch the cable every time we went to use PS3.
