Spoken words won't play back on my home theater system.?

I have a Samsung Home Theater System with the HDMI cable and the fiber optic cable all hooked up. I am trying to watch Transformers through surround and the spoken words do not come through. The music and some background noise comes out. I tried Spiderman 3 on it and everything sounded great. What am I doing wrong?

Spoken words won't play back on my home theater system.?sunshine

If you are using digital surround, you may want to check the connections to your center speaker. This is where the majority of the dialog plays through. An easy check is to use the test-tone generator that is built into most systems. It plays "static" (pink noise) through the speakers, one at a time. It's there so you can adjust the volume level of each speaker to match each other speaker.

If you get no sound from the center speaker when the tone is playing, you've found the source of your problem.

you failed to mention if your watching from a blue ray/dvd player of from your cable box. If from dvd or blue ray check players menu for surround sound options also check disc surround sound options.

How much does the Floor Staff at a Century Theater get paid?

I was just wondering because i have an interview. Im going to the century theater in a suburb of Sacramento Ca, if that helps anyone. Im also 17 if that plays a factor. I know that the minimum wage is going up to $8 per hour but i just wanted to know how much a floor staff gets paid so that I can see how much Im going to ask for if I get the job.

Thanks!

How much does the Floor Staff at a Century Theater get paid?musicals

Minimum wage -since you are only 17 and more than likely do not have much employment/work history experience I doubt you'll get more than the minnimum as a starting wage but if you apply yourself, get to work on time and do your job well usually in 90days there is a small raise. Good Luck

What is the most important part of a home theater system?

I'am looking at putting together a home theater system. i just

purched a new hd 1080p tv now for the sound where should i put

most of my money in the receiver or the speakers???

What is the most important part of a home theater system?performing arts show

Everything is Equal.

Speakers

You want to try to stay with the same brand of speakers. Myself I love Boston Acoustics. You should go to several stored with your DVD's and listen to everything in your budget. go with what sounds best to you.

Power.

Amplification it's what actually makes your speakers work. You want to make sure that the RMS or constant power rating ins't to much for your speakers. Also make sure it has plenty of inputs for your system to grow and cover what you have now.

Cables. The wires that sent signals to where they need to go.

Don't skimp here, the bargin bin is something to avoid, but you don't have to buy a 100.00 3 ft optical cable either. Mon$ster makes good product, but you do not need the top of the line it's too expensive and is overrated, just go with something of good quality and construction.

Speaker Placement is a biggie, you want to make sure you get a good even placement, Put your powered sub in the corner.

DVD players. A next Gen Player is a great idea.

HD-DVD and Blu-ray both have there flaws and there peaks.

there are a few players that will do both. but they run about 1200.00 You can get a PS3 599.99 and an Elite 499.00 and the HD-DVD add on for the 360 170.00 I think for about the same price, and have both next gen video game systems.

Don't forget the couch, thats a big key also, thst where your going to be sitting anyways.

If I had to choose between Receiver or Speakers. Id go with the receiver because it's easer to get new speakers than it is to redo the receiver.

What is the most important part of a home theater system?opera cd opera theater

First, buy nice speakers. The bigger, the better. No matter what Bose says. I preferr B%26amp;W due to their flat response and open sound stage. I consider speakers the most important, because if you buy a nice set of speakers, you won't need to replace them for many years. Also don't place them in room corners. That will just add unnecessary bass. Most tower speakers are designed to be placed 2 to 3 feet from the walls near the corners. Not right along the walls.

Secondly, I would say your amplifier. If you have the money, try an amp / preamp combo. This will give you the cleanest sound. Also, when it is time to upgrade to the latest decoding, you only have to upgrade the preamp and not your amplifier. If you want to save some money, buy a good audio / video receiver. They are a good all-in-one solution.

For separates, I like Rotel. For A/V receivers, I recommend Integra. (High end Onkyo)

Next, but equally important are your cables. Audio and video signals need to travel through your cables. All cables will adversely affect these signals. The better the cables, the less they will damage the signal. Myself, I use AudioQuest. They make many levels and are built extremely well. It is hard to say how much to spend. Remember that if you buy good cables, you can use them for many systems to come.

Next, I would say power conditioners. Believe it or not, they do make a difference. Especailly on newer digital systems. They will give you more depth in your music by taking that background hiss out. They can also increase the black levels on your TV by reducing the video noise. I use Richard Gray. It isn't cheap, but it works. Monster, Furman, Panamax, and APC also make decent conditioners.

Next I would say your video display. Old school rear projection TV's and tube TV's will give you the most accurate colors. Plasmas come in next. Then DLP's and LCD's.

RPTV's and tube TV's are big and bulky and sometimes have reflection issues if there are lights behind your.

Plasmas are slimmer, but also have the issue with lights.

DLP's don't have a glare issue, but are hard to see from angles, and often have added video noise in the pictures.

LCD's are slim and don't have glare issues. They are good for gaming, but cheap ones will have issues with fast motion blurring. 1080p Recommendations: Plasmas - Runco, Pioneer or Pioneer Elite, DLP's - Mitsubishi, LCD's - Runco or Sharp (Sharp - 64 or 92 series) Cheap 1080p LCD's have bad motion blurring issues.

As stated above, seating is important. Buy comfortable seating and try to place it in the middle of the room, but a little closer to the rear speakers than the front.

I could go on. Instead, visit a local custom dealer (not chain store) and ask for their advice. If you have a budget, tell them right away and decide if you are more of an audio person, or video person. This way they can build the system to cater to your wants and budget. Also, remember that you get what you pay for.
And now I know why some say that this field is confusing. I disagree with most that has been said. And I don't like the strong promoting of sub woofers that sellers and installers put on. Speakers are extremely important and if it were not for most receivers cutting off the bass to all speakers except the sub woofer, I would use my front left and right for bass reproduction. Most quality speakers used to produce better bass than most sub woofers today even forgiving them their high distortion because of ported tuning to "improve" base. When it comes to bass more is not better, cleaner is better. And don,t be sold on Monster anything. Your improvement bang for you dollar is very negative/miniscule. i.e not the place to waste your money.

I have been in electronics for over 50 years and an audio enthusiast/hobbyist for near that.
The most important part of a home theater is the display. Without a nice, high res and large picture, everything sucks.

As for the sound system, the receiver and speakers are both equally important. I would still be spending more on speakers than the receiver.
That you are satisfied with your investment
Hi. My answer is fairly long but there is no way to make it shorter so if you can bear with me you will have a better understanding about how the components affect the system.

.

Most Home Theatre enthusiasts get it wrong when they are connecting their systems. When you are assembling an Audio and Video Home Theatre, it is still important to follow the basic rules of High Fidelity sound systems. That is the most important component of your HomeTheatre is the Source component (DVD/CD Player,VCR, Satellite etc.)The quality of the audio/video signal coming out of this first component will determine the quality of the video you see and the sound you hear from your Speakers.Every other component in the system merely passes on this signal with greater or lesser accuracy. None can enhanse or improve it.Information is passed down a chain from one component to the next and in one direction only.Nothing in the chain can improve upon what is sent to it.Because we can't make the signal better than it is on the software, the goal is to degrade it as little as possible. If information is lost, damaged ,distorted, changed, or altered at the Source, nothing else down the chain can make up for ,or repair it. You have to put something good into the system to get something good out.A better amplifier will not improve a bad signal from the Source. It will only highlight it.The next most important component is the Interconnect cables that transfer the signal from the Source to the Preamplifier/Processor.This device selects the input ,controls the volume, processes the sound and controls the amount of power the Power Amplifiers send to the Speakers.Any small error by the Preamplifier, such as noise, distortion or harshness, will be multiplied when the Power Amplifiers make a larger copy and send it to the Speakers.Preamplifiers are the heart of the system. The greatest compromise in a Receiver is the use of a single power supply for all three sections (the Preamp. the Power Amps, and the Tuner). The needs of the Power Amps. section affect the Preamp section. That is why Receivers are not as smooth, effortless.open, and full sounding as Separate components.(separate Preamp, separate Power Amps ,separate Tuner)

After the signal has left the Preamp, it arrives at the Power Amps.Their job is to move the speakers back and forth with control and accuracy while not introducing any noise or distortions to the musical signal it receives from the Preamp. The speakers must amplify the full bandwith of 10 octaves with complete linearity.they must not shift phase at any requency and it must not amplify any harmonics more than others. To do so would distort musicality.

Finally the signal travels to the Speakers via a special cable which can alter the signal if the wrong one is used . Many Home Theatre enthusiasts believe that the speaker is the most important link in the Home Theatre chain. This seems to make sense because it is where the sound comes from, and true enough,if you change to a better set of Speakers a very different sound will come forth. But that sound has not corrected a bad signal, it is still there mixed in with the new speakers sound. The new speaker has not improved what was sent to it. But to the listener it appears that the speaker has corrected the signal.,which of course,it hasn't.Even inexpensive speakers can sound very good if they receive a good signal.

Ok.Here is the order of importance in the audio/video chain :

[1] SOURCE.

[2] INTERCONNECT (from source to preamp)

[3] PREAMPLIFIER/PROCESSOR.

[4] POWER AMPLIFIERS.

[5] SPEAKER CABLE.

[6] SPEAKERS.

Anyway i hope i have given you some ''food for thought"Armed with this knowledge you should be able to get something good.If you have any questions or remarks feel free to email me .I am always pleased to help anyone when it comes to audio and video.

Can you bring a 15 year old to Nokia Theater in Times Square?

I recently found out that Bad Religion is coming to NYC in October. I know that all the shows in that theater are 16+, I'm 16 myself but I want to bring a couple of friends who are 15. Do you think they would stop them? Do they check ID? I would hate to bring them and have them stay outside the whole night.

Your best bet is to call the Nokia Theater in Times Square at box office number Phone 212.930.1950 and ask them. Good luck.

Hours: Noon to 6:00 PM Monday through Saturday

The website says this

Age Limit

16 years and older unless accompanied by a ticketed adult

*Shows that require 21 %26amp; over will be listed as such

You must be 21 or older and have a valid ID to drink alcoholic beverages

Can you bring a 15 year old to Nokia Theater in Times Square?chicago theater opera theater

call the theater and find out.. or have a parent or someone 18+ come with you.
NY State law requires that anyone under the age of 16 be accompanied with a responsible adult over the age of 21. SO, you need to talk some parents or older siblings into going with you guys, otherwise, they won't let you in. Most places do check ID - especially any that serve liquor, because a liquor license is VERY expensive in NY. (About $15K a year, and nobody's gonna risk that kind of scratch.)

What was the last movie you saw in the theater...?

and what was the last DVD that you watched? Which one was better???

*I saw Enchanted yesterday with my kids at the theater (it was cute), but I watched Love Actually today for about the hundredth time on DVD! LOL I "STILL" prefer Love Actually!!! =D

Great question though! YOU get a star!

Have a wonderful Monday!

I saw the movie, "The Waitress" in the theater last June.

I really got me in the Christmas spirit! I'm totally read to shop, bake, cook and send good tidings.

:-D

The last DVD I watched was "It's Christmas, Charlie Brown" for old time's sake.

Both the movie and the DVD touched me in a way that was helpful, so they're equally important.
Hit Man and This Christmas....
This Christmas
I watched the Bourne Ultamatium in the theatre and I watched the dvd Hot Rod ...... wasn't even close ....... Bourne Ultamatium was so much better ...... Hot Rod was one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time ...... for your sake, please don't rent it ..... = )
I saw Bee Movie yesterday with my mom.
Saw 4 in the theater and Little Miss Sunshine on dvd. Both are great.

How do you get some jackass in the movie theater to shut up without the use of violence?

this guy in the movie theater thought that it was funny or impressive to talk during the movie, using obscenities, etc... Perhaps he had turets. Anyway, What is the best way to get him to be quiet without causing a scene? And, guys, if you do this and you think that its funny or that you look cool because you know a few 4 letter words, grow up.

Go get the ushers to handle it. It's their job, or else you can simply yell shut up until someone else gets the ushers, or goes and beats the crap out of the guy for you.

How do you get some jackass in the movie theater to shut up without the use of violence?theatre tickets opera theater

Take a piece of napkin and make a spit ball then shoot it at him through your drinking straw each time he acts up.

Get a cover for a laser pen that says SHUT UP JERK and shoot it on the screen each time he acts up.

Tell the usher and let him deal with it.
You could quietly, and accidentally, tip your coke down the front of his jeans in that specific area, then apologize, and comment that it looked like he'd better go and change.
Yell a little louder than he does and use more profanity.
I had the same thing happen while I was trying to see "Titanic". This person was sitting directly behind me. I simply turned around and told him to shut the @#ck up, or get the $%LL out. Of course, I am a fairly big guy, and have been told I can be intimidating. Whatever works.

BTW, I got the theater manager to give me ticket for another viewing. Evidently I was not the only one annoyed, since I got applause for telling him what to do with himself.
"Spill" your ice cold drink on him....;%26gt;
start praying silently that God will justly intervene. it's my experience that, depending on the movie, He will.

ex. Tommy Boy...God will intervene and allow maximum enjoyment.

Black Sheep...God wants nothing to do with anyone enjoying that movie.
throw your bucket of popcorn with boiling hot butter at his face. oh, you said no violence, uhm yell shut up? or call an usher?

i'd rather burn his face out of anger.
The flashlight team is the proper way to go. It is becoming more and more difficult to enjoy a movie with people talking and debating plot twists in a normal voice. Why do people think this is ok?
2 choices:

Report them to the usher

Ask the manager for a refund, you will get it.
i used to work at a movie theater, it was my first job.

any people that were causing a scene in a theater should be reported to a theater employee, and they will either ask the person to stay quiet, or they will be asked to leave.

and i've had to kick plently of people out of theaters..

How can I make a model of a movie theater within 4 days?

The model's length and width have to be slightly longer than a 8.5" x 11" piece of paper. I would also like a roof that can be removed to view the interior of the movie theater. Four people can work on the model at the same time. What materials should I use and how should I build it?

How can I make a model of a movie theater within 4 days?oper

Foam-core paper is the easiest material to work with... though I would use sheet-styrene plastic for it's durablity and many different thicknesses and because it also comes in industrial shapes like I and H beams !

Obviously, you'll want to do a design on paper, at a specific SCALE... make as many mistakes as possible on PAPER !

As the other answerer mentioned... a lip will support your roof, and you can make a"handle" out of a roof-air-conditioner.

you can use foam core to create a lip on the roof so it would stay on and be removable. Also, corrugated paper makes a great roof material.

Foam core will also work for the walls as its sturdy.

Your reading of the news article is in error. It said the new owner planned on making it a mosque, but the county/city would have rejected it for that purpose because there's insufficient parking in the area to support that kind of usage. The new owner is now exploring other uses for the building. A decision has not yet been made.

Mowing lawns. Sounds strange, but, it requires more self discipline and initiative. You have to solicit clients, arrange a schedule and stick to it. If you're reliable, you can use each of your clients as a reference in the future.

Which job will be better for my career? Movie Theater or Lawn Mowner? Hey im only 16 so which one should i go?opera music opera theater

Lawn Mower is definately better for building a career. It show determination and hard work to a potential employer.
Mow the lawns. Generally the pay is $20--$25 a lawn for about 2 hours of work (if you edge and sweep also). Working a minimum wage job you would have to work at least 4 hours (accounting for taxes) to make the same amount of money. Work hard for one or two days and have fun the rest of the time. You can make your own schedule and you don't have to pay any taxes.
If you go the mower route your body will always get it's exercise
lawn mower - the critical difference is you learn to be your own boss, where if you work at the theater you learn to be an employee.

bosses make more than employees in the long run.
Movie theaters are air conditioned, have food and you get free movies. This is probably the better deal.
Either. Neither will be your career if you go to college and choose a technical carreer. Good luck

Well, if you pick the movies you won't be all hot. But if you pick lawn mowing, you'll probably make more money. It all depends on where your priorities are.

Yes, ive seen a few - Phantom of the Opera at Bob Carr was my all time favorite!
Five Broadway shows-

there's NEVER a day WITHOUT a standing ovation. I think people are paid to stnad up, so that other ppl just follow, that's how the Beatles manager made them so famous!!!

Saturday Matinee is a bad idea- they save energy for the night time.

Phantom of the OPera was good, considering I don't really get the story, but the music and sets were FABULOUS.

BETTER- Little Shop of Horrors with Jason something from My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

CATS was great, I was nine, though.

Rent was great, I cried, I laughed, and there was this feminist blond, you thought she was a dumb character at first, but DEEP. Wow.

But yeah, if I could ever see a Broadway show without a damned standing ovation, I could think Broadway still meant something.
yeah ive seen a ton on broadway
i have seen many plays both in community theatres, schools and professional theatre. my favorite was the lion king

the only show i have ever seen on broadway

i do do a lot of shows as well

so theatre is my love
I've seen many live theater productions and acted in one. I've seen "The Lion King" and "Altar Boyz" in NYC - both were great. I see several productions each year at our local community theater. Everyone should check out their local theater group - you'd be amazed at the quality of the productions.

When is the proper time to begin building your theater resume?star theater

once you have something to put on it. You should have your resume ready so that when you have someone to give it to, you don't have to scramble to put one together.

Even if you don't have any stage credits, at least put down your education in theatre, special skills, vocal range (if you're a singer), dance experience, etc.

When is the proper time to begin building your theater resume?extension opera theater

As soon as your feel ready to start acting in plays then thats the time to start building that resume.

You'll be building that resume you're whole acting career.
right now.
You are too young to bother with resumes now because you are likely to be doing unpaid work for a long time. If you decide to turn pro, a resume of your most recent work would be of use only to encourage a prospective agent to come out and watch you perform. If you get taken on, your agent will tell you what to put into your resume.

Resumes never got anyone hired - they only help you to get auditions. While you are an an amateur, they will audition anybody. Just show up prepared.

How many people on here are going to see "The Simpsons" movie in theater, when it comes ou

This will probably be the only time anyone will be able to go to a theater just to watch "The Simpsons". I think it will be exciting just to see Homer on the big screens.

It would also be cool if they would do a introduction before the movie starts with "The Simpsons" arriving at the movie theater purchasing tickets to watch the movie that they made.

Maybe have a part in the introduction where Homer doesn't want to pay to see the movie and he sneaks in the back way to watch the movie for free.

Another cool part would be to show the Springfield people carrying in video cameras to record "The Simpsons" movie.

By the way, I am from Springfield, MO. So it is really exciting to watch "The Simpsons" act in their town of Springfield, and myself watching "The Simpsons" in the town of Springfield.

So is everyone excited? A little over a year and we get to watch it on the big screen. By the way, I am 24. I been a fan of the Simpsons since the early 90's.

What does it takes to make a boring movie theater become an attraction?

What could make a theater worth going to besides what's being played? What would it take to make the viewers comfortable staying there and enjoying themselves? What kind of atmosphere would viewers settle with and dissapprove of?

(Cash isn't a useful answer.)

What does it takes to make a boring movie theater become an attraction?hollywood theater

The movie theatre needs to be special and different. It needs to be very clean and organized. The staff needs to be attentive, helpful, outgoing, and friendly. The seats in the theatre need to be comfortable, large, and clean. The floors should not be stick. The atmosphere needs to be incredible. You should go for an old Hollywood glamour theme. Imagine what theatres were like back then and reinvent that idea. Put the flashing, vertical sign on the outside. You need to make it beautiful inside. On the floor and walls you should have famous movie qoutes, such as, "May the force be with you" or "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." You should have the staff dressed in very nice outfits. The theatre needs to also be large and fit the right amount of people. Make sure there is stadium seating. Have benches and tables all over the lobby and have a really nice arcade for the kids. Don't make it overly junky with a bunch of posters. Just make it beautiful and people will come. Try not to make the tickets or concession stands items too expensive if you can. That would turn people off. Good luck!

CHILDREN FRIENDLY? make it for the elementary schoolage set-copy the cable t.v.channel network
People that walk around selling food so you dont have to miss the movie going back to the food court thingy.

Or having the bigest movie theater on earth, I would go there just to experience it.
Movies.

Concessions that do not cost $5 per item.

Clean facilities. (No trash laying around anywhere, especially in the theater.)

Good equipment.

Stadium style seating.

Friendly faces.
Theaters should hire live magicians, dancers, jugglers, clowns or live bands to play before the movie starts.

Doing this would give the patron the feeling that he is getting a lot more for the price of admission.

Does upgrading the cables used to hook up home theater systems make a big difference?

I recently bought a new tv a 720p 56" JVC rear projection TV as well as a 5.1 channel Pionner home theater system w/ a dvd player. I'm curious if I upgrade the cables to hook the system up to the TV if that would improve the sound/video quality? If so what cable would be used to do this the TV has the following inputs:

2 S-video (1 side, 1 rear); 2 component video; 3 composite video (1 side, 2 rear); 1 PC; 2 HDMI and 3 audio (1 side, 2 rear)

Also I'm not sure if this would be an issue as i have not tried it yet but I also have a PS3 that i will be hooking up via HDMI to the TV and want to be sure that the surround sound will work when I'm playing games or watching Blue Ray movies. Thanks in advance for your help!!

Does upgrading the cables used to hook up home theater systems make a big difference?

Yes, a quality cable does make a difference, but don't get sucked in by some hundred dollar monster cable.

Does upgrading the cables used to hook up home theater systems make a big difference?opera mobile opera theater

You should use the HDMI cable from your PS3 to the TV (get the lowest cost HDMI cable), but also connect the digital audio output from the PS3 to the Pioneer digital audio inputs (either optical or coax). It is not clear if the TV will output digital audio from its HDMI input; you will have to look in the user manual for the TV to see what the digital audio output from the TV will support. You should also be connecting the digital audio output from the TV to the pioneer, so you can get surround sound from broadcast TV. If the TV passes the digital audio from the HDMI to its digital audio output, then you do not need the optical/coax connection from the PS3 to the Pioneer.
Yes the cables do count and based on your specs I would use the super video or composite hook ups for the TV and the PS# on the HDMI
Yes Big Big difference I use HDMI and Component video
I can tell you that the cables you buy at the store are mostly a rip-off...You should make your own out of "RG6" cable...The RG6 has ZERO signal loss up to 100 feet...So 3 feet between your DVD and TV will be fine...Here's a link to show you how to do it: http://www.whydoesmyhometheatersuck.com/...

And I know that HDMI is the "big bad" cable of the future, but it won't always give you the best connection...There are other things to consider...Click this to see what I'm talking about: http://www.whydoesmyhometheatersuck.com/...

But your JVC can't show a "1080p" signal...That's all HDMI is good for these days...Your TV can only show "720p"...So you might save that $150 on an HDMI cable...Or like we suggested, try it both ways and see for yourself which gives you the SHARPER picture...Here's a link explaining differences in picture quality: http://www.whydoesmyhometheatersuck.com/...

And I can assure you that on our $100 "boom-box" at only 7 watts per channel, RG6 made a TREMENDOUS sound improvement...Think how much more it can do for your Pioneer...But don't take my word for it...Go and try it yourself.

Why is everything so over priced at the movie theater?

I went to see a movie a few days ago and a water was $4.00, can you believe that.

Why do you think the popcorn and drinks, snacks, etc at the movie theater are so outrageously priced?

Why is everything so over priced at the movie theater?opera music

I work for a movie theatre in cincinati. The reason we have to charge so much for our movies tickets/ consessions is because the theatres pay the actors, hollywood, the directors, producers etc.. For every $9.00 ticket we sell we make 25 cents in proftit, for every $6.25 ticket we sell we make 10 cents. We have to charge that much just in order to make enough to keep the theatre open for one month.

Why is everything so over priced at the movie theater?opera sheet music opera theater

the problem is that movie theaters make only like a dollar of every ticket sold and make more of their money on concession's but with less people buying snacks at the movies the price start to get outrageous. so support your local movie theater buy the junk food.
The theatres are doing us a big favor. By making food expensive, we might refrain from overeating (the all american pastime) while watching movies, and this might make us healthier. Just a thought !!!
I am not a cheapskate, but I bring my own bottled water or a soda in my pocketbook. The soda costs so much and always tastes like it's 90% seltzer. They do it because they know it is an American habit to eat like you're not going to eat for a month while shoving fist fulls of popcorn out of a barrel.
I agree the candy counter at movie theaters should be selling caviar for what they charge! The only answer to why they charge so much is that people are willing to pay it. If you are a guy taking out a girl you want to impress you can't very well tell her that the popcorn is too expensive. And if you are a parent with a screaming kid, it's almost worth any price to get them to shut-up. If you are alone, you might feel like a little indulgence. If you are with friends, you don't want them to think you are poor if they are all buying something so the odds are you will pay too. My idea? Eat before you go and bring a candy bar and soda in your purse. (smile)
I know its happening dese days a lot!
cuz they know that thats the only way you can get food and that practiacally everyone ususlly gets something

tahts why they dont let you bring food in either they want to to spend $$$
because they dont make money off the ticket sales, they make the money off the concessions.
So they can make money.
Because we keep going and paying it, thinking that we don't have any choice, but if we stopped going to the theater and just waited for the DVD's to come out, the prices would eventually go down or the theaters would go away.
So the company can make millions that may also help movie starts pay for their 10 million dollar homes and 20 cars.
Because people pay it. If they stopped buying it or even going to the theaters, they'd be forced to lower their prices. I don't go much, if at all, myself.
Because they can.

As long as people buy the crap at that price, they will sell it. Plain and simple.

Same for the price of the movie tickets.

This is a scenario that defies the competition theory, that if a competitor sets up shop, the prices will go down.
to make more profit
They have to make a profit to pay employees, insurance, permits, repairs to furniture and fixtures in the theaters, inspectors and delivery people, paper suppliers, cleaning equipment and products, refuse collection, taxes, carpet cleaning, state of the art video and audio equipment and the upkeep. And then they must be able to feed cloth and house their families.
I asked one time (at the theatre)... I believe the response was to help pay for the movie selection and keep the theatre open. Because of Video stores, HBO, Pay-per-view-type operations, the theatres are having tough times.
And they don't even have the good candy anymore.
The profit margin on showing the film itself is a very narrow one. The real profit at the theatre is on the concessions. Since i am "captive" at the movies, I concede to your over inflated prices for food, snacks, and beverages. How do i dare expect you to operate at less than a profit? But, $4 for water?? That must be relative to the real estate market where you are and land tax rates.
Because thats where they make their money
Cuz they know u will have no choice but to buy food from them.
Because people keep paying it. Personally, I wait for the DVD.
They need all of the money that they can get!!!!!
I think that it is because the theaters rely mostly on consession sales to make their money. I dont think they get much on the movies themselves.

It's like a gas station, They dont make their money on the sale of gas. Its the stuff they sell inside that brings in the money.
The movie theatre makes the majority of it's profits from the concessions- which is why they are so over priced. Usually you can sneak a water or drink in your purse without them knowing =)
Because movies are usually coming to dvd in a month or so, and a lot of people are buying projectors and screens for their homes, and they predict that by 2009 movies will be in dvd from theatre to dvd in about 2 weeks, so nobody will go to movie theatres and thats a fact, another fact is that by late 2012 they expect movies to be from the studios directly to dvds.
The movie theaters actually don't make any money from ticket sales. They have to pay to carry the movie, and for the people who work there, all out of the profits they make on vending. In other words everything you see in a movie theater is payed for by the snacks and drinks. Which is why you should sneak in food.
Because we are dumb enough to pay it, I guess.
Profit
Not enough people are going to the movie so the price of refreshments are jacked up. I once used to go to two movies in one night, now I rarely, rarely go. The big sound experience scares me away.
B/c the theaters are owned by communists!!
Probably because most people sneak in their own stuff so when people do buy something, they have to make a good profit. Here, nachos are $5.

How do I connect my Samsung HT-X40 home theater speakers to my Onkyo Audio Receiver?

I have no clue what type of connection the Samsung HT-X40 home theater speakers are.

How do I connect my Samsung HT-X40 home theater speakers to my Onkyo Audio Receiver?soap opera

All speakers need two wires to work; positive and negative one.

One manufacturer blurp is to tell you this: always connect the positive wire to the postive output on the amplifier and the negative to the negative output on the amplifier respectively. But really, should you?

No! Not necessary! Its main purpose is to prevent 'short circuiting' the speaker and amplifier, which can result in explosion or fire.

That's because as long one wire goes through the positive and the other negative output on the amplifier, the speaker and amplifier should work fine.

Important note though: make sure the speaker impedance is supported by the amplifier and that the speaker supports more than the maximum power supplied by the amplifier.

So, modern theatre speakers have clips so that the two wires seems to be one. Just cut the end of the wire, not so close to the clip so you can always 'reconnect' them in the future, snapped them and separate the two wires so you can easily connect later, and then cut off a small portion of the wire head to expose the internal wiring.

There you go. Your Samsung speakers should now be easily connected via 2-input/output wiring on the Onkyo amplifier.

Again. Make sure the Onkyo support the impedance of the Samsung speaker, cause many modern theatre speakers have super low impedance of 2-4ohms, which on amplifiers that support 8-12ohms, you could be firing up the amplifier with heat which will do permanent damage to it.

Hope it helps.

Is Bose really a good option as a home theater receiver?

I want to setup a home theater room and haven't decided which AV receiver to purchase. I have been looking around and apparently Bose is one of the most expensive. But I haven't have a professional or objective opinion. If Bose is not the best option, which one should be?

Is Bose really a good option as a home theater receiver?opera mini

Yes, Bose is a proprietary manufactured system. Its that way because with the Bose system, everything in the box is all you need.

As far as price goes, when you look at The Bose Lifestyle 48. (The Premium System Surround Sound System) You Get 340 Hours of digital music storage, which features Umusic. Umusic actually learns what type if music is appropriate for what mood. You tell it you like the Beatles, it recommends Elton John, Tell it you like Elton John, It plays Billy Joel. It then learns what type of music you like and will continue to play that type of music for you. You can have 9 presets for that. Its awesome.

AdaptiQ is an automatic calibration system, that customizes the sound to your room type, (wood floors, or carpet, high roof, low roof, furniture type etc.) 10 Mins and your system is optimized for your room. and if you get new furniture...just run it again and your good to go.

Also you get the Jewel Cubes with the 48. (which are NOT made out of paper!!) They give you rich crisp sound. The Jewel Cubes are award winning speakers. And if your looking for expansion through out your home...14 extra rooms of sound can be done. 8 can be done wireless. And you could even use some of your existing stereo speakers. Just because some people cant afford Bose doesn't make Bose bad.

The Bose home theater systems range from $999 - $3999, and are worth every penny.

Bose is a proprietary manufactured system. This means that you can ONLY hook up there speakers to their receiver without doing some cabling/plug modification.

Their speakers are so over priced it is really ridiculous.

Why would someone spend $500.00-$1000.00 on a speaker system when the replacement drivers only cost $12.00 a piece for a replacement???

Look to spend about half of your budget on the speaker system and the rest on equipment

Remember!!

A well balanced and faithful reproduction speaker system will not fit in palm of your hand.
Bose is good, expensive, but good. Yamaha has some nice systems. JVC, Sony. A lot depends on how much you want to spend. If I could afford Bose that's the way I would go.
It is too expensive for what you are getting. You can find a much less pricey one somewhere else. JVC and Sony are good.

What is your best option depends on your budget, with out a dollar amount i can't give you any suggestions.
BOSE IS NOT OUTRAGEOUSLY PRICED FOR SPEAKERS AND RECEIVER. AROUND $2500. IF YOU LIKE HOW BOSE SOUNDS DON'T LET AUDIO STOBS STOP YOU. THE BIGGEST AUTHORITY ON WHAT YOU LIKE IS YOU. I PERSONALLY DON'T LIKE HOW BOSE SOUNDS. DENON RECEIVER WITH 4 MARTIN LOGAN CLARITY ELECTRO-STATIC HYBRIDS AND I CINEMA CENTER AND 500 WATT 12INCH SUB FROM INFINITY AND A SONY 400 DISC DVD. IS WHAT I OWN--ABOUT $12000. ALOT OF PEOPLE DONT' LIKE MARTIN LOGAN BUT I LIKE THEM VERY MUCH-- END OF STORY. LOOK INTO DENON AND YAMAHA AND ONKYO FOR RECEIVERS--MAKE SURE TO COMPARE LIKE MODEL OF EACH. BEST BUY WITH A MAGNOLIA IS A GOOD PLACE TO START FOR AN AVERAGE SHOPPER. WIRING AND CABLE IS OFTEN OVERLOOKED AND CAN COST SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR A 5.1 SET-UP DON'T CUT CORNERS ON THIS. SPEAKERS FROM KLIPSCH AND INFINITY AND POLK ARE A GOOD PLACE TO START.

However, there are some places where people SHOULDN'T smoke just out of courtesy to others! In front of a theater is one of those places. They should have pity on non-smokers that don't want to breathe in their crap.

YESSSSS!!! That is sooooo annoying!!!!
I don't care normally. But if they were being annoying that would be bad. They probably just wanted to be in the middle. And the fact that they chose to sit one seat over shows they were trying to be polite and not bump your chair.
Idk but yes that makes me mad but it's even worse when it's someone you know and hate.
Well thank goodness you went to the movie theater this afternoon. I was worried you went out trick or treating and someone gave you a block of velveta and milk and I would never see you on P%26amp;S again!
That happens a lot to me. But, I usually move away from them or just try to block them out.
Man does that piss me off. They probably do that on purpose, just to mess with people. I wish some people would just grow the hell up!
Some people really don't care about other's feelings.
I like to put my feet up on the chair in front of me, and I always go to the latest showing but for some reason, someone always sits in front of me
idk they feel lonley and want someone to sit near :)

Very Much.. makes me angry

So I sit behind them and I annoy them (farting noises, messy/ loud eater, whatever obnoxious thing works)
God yes and it happens all the time! What is wrong with people? I wish I knew the answer! What did you see?

Steamed? You had better watch out or you will become all limp.
Absolutely! I also don't understand it in a seat yourself restaurant!... I look at them like - there are plenty of tables OVER THERE, why do you have to sit two seats away from me?!
People who do that have no manners.
I know what you mean. It annoys me too.

By the way you are broccoli, and you are steamed.

What do you think of the RCA-RTD160 Home Theater System?

I earned an award at work that allows me to pick from a group of prizes. One of the items I am looking at is the RCA 160 (see link below).

It has been a number of years since I have looked into a system and I don't really know what is good and what is not. I used to with 'it', then they changed what 'it' was and now what I am with is no longer 'it' and what is 'it' seems strange and confusing to me. So I thought I would reach out and let someone who has a better idea of what is good help me out.

More details. I have three kids. This system will be used for listening to kids movies and CD's. Occasionally my wife and I will watch something grown up, but not too often. Keep that in mind.

So, is this an OK player for what I want to do?

http://www.amazon.com/RCA-RTD160-Home-Th...

What do you think of the RCA-RTD160 Home Theater System?opera mobile

This will be good for if you just want to just have a player.

It wont be;

A) loud,

B) very Clean at loud outputs,

C) good sounding for parties,

D) overall wont sound very good.

Will;

A) blow easily if you turn it up too loud,

B) will play music, movies and games at moderate sound lvls

C) do all that for free.

In my opinion, 30 watts per speaker is very weak. My first stereo I bought was 100 watts per speaker. And it was like $130, It was bout 2 years ago, and i was 14. THe wattage matters for volume, Dvd player/AMP combo most of the time doesnt sound as good. Because they go for space saving, but a good system needs more room than wat most DVD/AMP combos offer.

So in answer to your question, yes it will do wat you want. But later, it will make u wanting more. And then is when you invest into nicer equipment, and if you do get interested, contact me. There are many, many factors that will affect your decision.

My parents have come to Chicago and we are going to the theater tomorrow at 7:30. We would like to have dinner after the theater at about 10 p.m. but I am not sure if any restaurant here in Chicago would serve us that late... any ideas?

White castle is open 24 hours a day 4 slider they will sleep like babies enjoy
There are some great 24 hour diners in the city. They serve great food.
There are a ton of places open then that will serve you. You didn't mention which theatre though, so I'm going to assume the Chicago Theatre on State?

Bin 36 is always open till 11:30 and till 1:30am on Fridays.

Aria is open till 1:30am everynight as well.
Club lago runs late and they have the best Italian i've ever eaten.

Another option is Miller's Pub at 134 S. Wabash Ave. (312) 645-5377.

They are a good steakhouse/ribhouse and have a reputation for late night fine dining. This is where we typically go after the theater/symphony downtown.

What do you think of acting in movies vs. theater?

whats the difference in talent?

which is looked at more highly upon movies or theater?

thanks;

simone.

What do you think of acting in movies vs. theater?city opera

Oh, man. I think that basically, it is the same, however there is a reason Hollywood agents and casting Director's look highly upon the theatre credit section of an actor's resume.

In a nutshell, I think that stage actors tend to be more talented (this is an across the board statement - obviously there are some very talented film actors like Sean Penn, Robert De Niro, Marlon Brando, Meryl Streep, Lauren Bacall, etc) , HOWEVER that is because having a successful career in theatre requires a great deal of talent. Every successful, working stage actor HAS to have a high level of acting ability. You can't B.S. in front of a live audience. It's obvious if you can't act and if you can't act, you won't get hired.

Not so for movies...

A great movie doesn't always require a great actor. A good script, lighting, effects, cinematography and editing can all create an entertaining movie without having a lead with a great deal of acting ability or range. Just look at The Matrix - great movie, but I doubt Keanu Reeves will be winning any Oscar's or Tony's in his lifetime.

If you have a good actor though, I think they should be able to do both stage and film successfully because you're just applying the same principles and techniques to different mediums. A good actor knows how to adjust (either minimizing or maximizing) their movements and blocking while still retaining their character and moving/speaking with purpose.

What do you think of acting in movies vs. theater?performing shows opera theater

Movies you can do take after take after take until it is right.

Theatre you only get one shot to get it right. You are performing live, you have to have all of your lines memorized. If you screw up a line you have to be able to fix it and get back on track.

Most actors get their start in the theatre. All actors who can truly bring a character to life either on the screen or on stage and make it believable are talented.

In my opinion theatre is more highly regarded than movies. Not to take anything away from the movies, but the theatres have existed much longer than films. Of course going by today's ticket prices the movies have reached a broader spectrum and made it affordable entertainment....with the exception of the snack bar of course.

I don't think any true actor would disregard either form as a lesser talent. Like I said any actor who successfully brings a character to life and makes you believe that they are this person is brilliant and talented.
Well stage acting is harder because if you mess up the director can't just yell cut and do the scene over lol :) It would confuse the hell out of the audience. If anything goes wrong during a stage performance then u have to work around it. in movies they can just re shoot.
theater is considered higher art

most actors cross over a lot
Actors do the same thing if they are effective whether they are in movies or on stage. There is no difference in talent.

While there are a lot of theatre snobs who think the stage is somehow superior to film, they are equal in esteem.
Well, people in film also often look crap onstage. It works both ways.

Essentially, a stage actor will have to use their entire body to express what a film actor does in much smaller movements, much more concentrated on the face. A stage actor needs more attention to the body and to the vocal training; a film actor needs more training in stillness and working with a camera. Both are working with the same kind of emotional material, I think, but they're expressing it differently. That's why it's relatively easy for a theatre actor to train to work in film, and for a film actor to train to work on stage... but each will have to learn a couple new skills if they want to make the switch.

There's no difference in "talent," which as far as I'm concerned is a meaningless term anyway. What does that mean, really? That you have a natural ability to do something? Forget that--art is work, no matter if you're in film or stage.

And as for which one's got more glamour, it really depends who you talk to. The theatre world and the film world are both very proud (and rightly so) of good work, and I don't think any good actors from either camp would really debase the other. If you're talking about your teachers, peers, or some random person on the street, of course they have a personal preference. I love both theatre and film, so why bother trying to find out which one is better? That's like comparing ice cream and chocolate cake...
I like both. The movies can be really good but I LOVE acting so it is really hard to pick.
I've done both and I can tell you from experience that there is nothing more fun than working a live crowd. It is a skill that is an intrinsic part of the actors craft or the musician or dancer or any performer for that matter. A great man once told me that there is no play without the con creative activity of an audience. Each member of the audience is having a unique experience. One can only take from an experience in relation to what one brings to it. I do have a great deal of respect for the actor in the film media however. It is a different skill. You may shoot the climax of a scene one day and two days later the set up. This to me would be like a musician playing the chorus today and verse two days later. How can you find the rhythm and the soul of the character that way. This is why I have a great deal of respect for film actors because the good ones can do this. I do not have more respect for one than the other. Each requires a different set of skills.
When I studied with the Russian actress/teacher Mira Rostova, people were always asking her this question because of her connection with Montgomery Clift and the fact that she came from the Moscow Art Theatre, and she had this standard reply: In one you speak louder.

We have all seen many stage actors act in film, and some of us have seen 'film actors' act in the theatre. Some are able to do both, some film only and not the stage, and vice versa. I have to agree with Ms Rostova, acting is acting. There are different skill sets, but if you're not honest and truthful in either, you'll not succeed. The theatre is considered to be more disciplined, but then you have actors like the great Jack Lemmon who could turn it on and off like water. It comes down to each individual actor - there is an as varied array of talents and skills as there are actors. I remember what a teacher once told me: remember that there will always be actors who are better than you are, just as there will be those who are worse. We do our best in any given job.
people in theater sometimes can't always get roles in movies

there motions and actions are always bigger because they are on a stage

ppl in movies the camera catches everything so no need to make big emotions and takl really loud with lots of expressions

Need help hooking up my PS2 to my home theater?

I am hooking up my new home theater system and had a question. I bought a sony 40" lcd flat panel and mounted it on the wall and put my Pioneer Elite VSX-81TXV Receiver and other componets in a closet on the backside of the livingroom. My question is if I hook up my ps2 to my receiver is it possible that my wireless controller will work through the wall or is there another option. I'm new to this so any advice will help

Need help hooking up my PS2 to my home theater?passions soap opera

Hi,

I won't work. The wireless signal is very weak on the PS controller.

And even if you got lucky with the signal strength it won't respond fast enough.

The only way I think you can do it is:

Drill a small hole in the wall and run an extension audio and video cable though the wall.

To make it look tidy you could mount an audio/video plug in wall plates both sides of the wall. Then join them together through the wall. On one side plug your extension cable in on the other side plug your PS cables.

The wall plate is like the one on this site.

The top ends and corners are the best make out spots. The center is just the best position to watch the movie because you get a good equal view of the whole screen.

How would I go about getting a job in theater?

If I'm straight out of high school, and I head off to London, how would I go about getting involved in the theater? Keep in mind I have a very strong background in play production and acting, but other than "auditioning" for roles, what other jobs would be available for someone like me? Could I, perhaps, get a job simply assisting with costume design or something along those lines?

How would I go about getting a job in theater?home theater

Theres costume design, lights, sound, stagehand, set painting, playwrights, and many many more!

I'm sure that you could find someway to get into a local theater.

Just apply!

The better the people at the theater know you and your talents, the more likely you are to get a job!

How would I go about getting a job in theater?comedy club opera theater

In professional theatre, to be a costume or set designer you would have to have a lot of experience just like being an actor. But in a community theatre, they are always looking for help like that.

However if you were to pursue a job like that, it makes it easier to be involved in the theatre. You will know the people who work their and have "connections" and know how everything works. Many people take that route only to later perform.

Keep performing and working up your RESUME. Get a DEGREE in theatre. Train with the best and work your heart out. Good luck!

(later) It's not that getting a degree is the easy path. It's NOT easy to get a degree, you would find. But since you don't want to, don't. Instead, invest in acting classes and voice lessons if you wish to do music theatre. You NEED that.
Yup, just need to look at classifieds, and start making those connections. IN the US we have backstagejobs.com and ArtSearch to name a few.
Well..... sense you know your stuff start out for small parts and keep on climbing up the ladder. If you don't get a part help out with the set and ( I know stupid but you'll have to act like you were going to do it anyway) costumes. Be gracious and kind.

How to connect laptop to cheap surround sound/home theater system?

i have a toshiba satellite latop, that has an S-Video connect. my cheap dvd player/surround sound/home theater system has an S-Video connect as well. the dvd player "thing" has the connection on the back. the player connects to a 1-piece amp/sub through six plugs and connects to 5 speakers through plugs off of the amp/sub. but there is no screen on the dvd player to figure how to play the music coming from the laptop. im trying to avoid connecting the system to a tv, and going that route, just trying to play music from my laptop through my surround sround system. i have the s-video cord and misc a/v cords, but connecting the two electronics through just the s-video cord does nothing, music plays through the laptop speakers still, and not through the surround sound system.

How to connect laptop to cheap surround sound/home theater system?amc theater

S-video does not contain audio! It's a component system that breaks the video into 3 parts for a better picture. Audio is on the sound card/joystick just like a desktop PC.

Use the TV set for the video if it has that hookup and the sound card to the amp just as you would for any other source.

If you don't have the correct setup on the tv, you need to find a video cable or box to convert.

Radio Shack has a nice box like that for way under $50, component 3 jack RCA cables and S-video, 4 inputs and it converts all of them up and down without switching, simple and all your home DVD players and such will probably go on one box.

Philips (PhilipsMagnavox) had an automatically switched box with an RF modulator for your game console etc that had a low price and you could find it at Wal-mart etc but remember that it switches when you turn one thing off and one on meaning if you have something always on it won't switch. It or similar things may still be available; this was in 2002 when I bought one for somebody.

Nope, didn't find that and Wal-Mart only had a 4-port HDMI switch. Try Radio Shack if you need one, I'd recommend it as I have an older version. It looks a bit like an ugly old A/B or cable box now but 15-1976 had the switches on the front, was pretty, yes pretty easy to push around that way (velcro that puppy if it helps). the 1976 may be available in closeout or as a leftover in some stores.

Best of luck!

How to connect laptop to cheap surround sound/home theater system?concerts opera theater

The S-Video cable will only transmit the video feed from the laptop, not the audio. For that, you will need to also connect audio.

Your laptop will mostly have a mini-stereo output (used for most consumer electronics, also known as a 3.5mm jack). You probably would've used it before to plug headphones or computer speakers into.

What sort of input does the Surround system have?

It is very likely that it will have an RCA input (a red and a white socket, or a red and a black socket - it's circular). It'll probably be labeled "Aux" or something similar. You need a cable to go from the mini stereo to the RCA input. The cable can be purchased relatively cheaply at any electronics store. Look for "3.5mm male to RCA male" or "mini stereo male to RCA male", or ask someone at the shop to give you a hand.

Hope that helps.
I got a free laptop from this site, I highly recommend it!

In the Dell line, I would suggest the Dell 1800MP projector. For not much more you can get a Toshiba model TDP-T45U. It is a little brighter(2500 vs 2100 lumens) and has a clearer picture. The replacement bulbs are a comparable ($299.00 for Dell 1800MP, $250.00 - 298.00 for Toshiba TDP - T45U).
Not Dell, Go to www.projectorcentral.com they have ratings and reviews for all types of projectors. Sanyo Z5 is a great buy, the Panasonic PT-AX100U also.

Why did they bring the baby to the movie theater?

Today I was watching the "Simpsons Movie" but some idiot parent decides they should bring their baby with them to the theater. Everyone was so pissed at them. Why do people do such selfish things as if other people hadn't paid to enjoy the movie too! I can't stand selfish fools like that. Why is there so much stupidity in America?

Why did they bring the baby to the movie theater?imax theater

Yes, this really pisses me off. What are you doing taking a 2 month out to a movie anyways. Look, I'm sorry you're stressed out, but so am I. So don't ruin my night. If you can't get somebody to watch your kid, then you don't get to go to the movie. You go somewhere else where it doesn't distract people. Also, if you don't bring a baby, don't talk to the asshole you brought with you. It should be quiet in a movie theater. I also don't appreciate heelies, whinny kids, your kids climbing on things in the store like it's a jungle as they are blocking my way and other various stuff. Stop feeding your kids nothing but sugar. Also, stop feeding your *** nothing but sugar so you can get up off of it and take care of your kids.

Why did they bring the baby to the movie theater?classical music opera theater

Because parents need a release too and sometimes there is not someone available for them to do this. We did this when my daughter was just a couple of months old. We don't live near any family and won't trust our child to just anyone. We had been in the walls of our house almost continuously. I couldn't leave my daughter for long periods of time anyways because I was nursing her. I admit it probably wasn't the best decision, but it by far and away wasn't stupid.

Take a chill pill. You don't know their circumstances enough to judge whether they are stupid nor selfish
its probaly because they couldnt or didnt want to pay for a babysitter or they just couldnt get one
The only theater I go to anymore is the Alamo Drafthouse here in Houston. Tuesday matinees are baby shows - that's it. They even make an announcement before the movies that you can "flag" a waitperson to get the manager if an "adult" baby is talking on a cellphone, etc. My kind of movie theater %26amp; the only one I frequent unless it's a huge emergency.
I believe it is up to the manager of the movie theater to not admit anybody who brings a baby into a movie theater, I agree with you and most of the parents let the kid cry and don't take the kid out because they are used to the baby crying and it don't other them, some people can be so ignorant, and if you notice it's mostly the lowlifes that do it.
i agree for those of us smart enough not to have children or smart enough to leave them behind this is annoying. i think that if the parents cant find a sitter they need to do a different activity that will not ruin someone elses night out , like maybe chill in a park or rent a movie.
cause they think because they're stressed with parenthood they have the right to ruin the 10bucks over 100 people paid for a movie. If they dont want to deal with the kid duties (like taking them out when they cry) they shouldnt have them.
Maybe they thought the baby would sleep through the movie..mine aways did...but if they had started acting up or crying, i would have taken them out..lol..i still would!

I have a computer that holds my MP3 library. I want to play the MP3s using my home theater system. My TV has a PC audio input but my receiver does not. If I get a male-male PC audio cable and run it from my computer to the TV, should I be able to play my MP3s through my home theater system?

* Klipsch Synergy Sub-10 Subwoofer

If your PC is near you stereo use this:

1. Locate the line out or headphones out of your PC. Buy an RCA to stereo plug from any local electronics store.

2. Hook up the mini stereo plug to your PC's soundcard line out or headphone out.

3. Connect the other end (RCA) to your amp's auxilliary out.

WARNING: like the others said turn down the volume to avoid destroying your speakers.

If its far:

1. Hook it up using a wired ethernet media box like linksys or if you have Wifi get an apple express. It receives music from your desktop (wifi) and has a line out that you can hook up to your stereo

By running male-male PC audio cable from my computer to the TV, you should be able to playMP3s through your home theater system.
Yup Just becareful with the volume when first starting it up. Set it to the lowest on both then turn up each slowly. This way you do not blow up your ears and system by noise or feedback.

On mine the PC volume is 10% and the home sound system is what I use to control the loudness. Else my sound starts to sound like a bunch of static and feedback noise.

Why does the right front speaker on my Sony home theater system hum?

Why does the right front speaker on my Sony home theater system hum?shows

might have some electrical interference

Why does the right front speaker on my Sony home theater system hum?comedy show opera theater

There could be other reasons, but I would go simple first. I suspect you have a bad cable leading from your DVD player to your processor. Try switching the left and right outputs from the dvd player. If your hum switches sides, you have located the problem. Buy new cables. Here's a hint: the cables that come with most gear are not very good. Spend a little money on your interconnects. You'll get better performance.

Now, if the cable swap does not isolate your problem, the issue is probably more complicated. Sometimes this "hum" is caused by interference between cables that are too close together. Try separating your cables. Sorry to be repetitive, but this problem might still be solved by buying some better quality cables. There is something known as shielding in sound transmitting cables. You might eliminate the problem with better cables.

You could try switching your dvd outputs to a different input on your processor. If that fixes the problem, your Sony HT processor is the problem. Sony puts out some OK gear, but it also sells a lot of mid-fi trash to gain market share. If you bought a $500 HT-in-a-box, well. . . .you get what you pay for. This might be covered by your warranty.

If swapping inputs on your processor/receiver doesn't fix the hum issue, the problem is probably in the DVD player's output stage. You won't be able to fix that yourself. Bring the player back to where you bought it. These players have gotten very cheap. Again, you get what you pay for.
yes i also have that same model HT-DDW700 and the problem might be the cable your using i use digital optical cable as opposed to the red and white audio cables but if you dont want to buy new cable just switch the cable to a diffrent imput source hope this helps

Try visiting www.technicaltheater.com or www.theatrebooks.com for more suggestions.

What's the name of the technical handbook for backstage theater work?events opera theater

Go to Amazon.com and search on backstage theater work or stagecraft. You will find a lot of books listed. Don't know if they are the one you want however once you have titles you could go to the library. At the library, if you find one of these books, look in the back in the references section. If the book is as good as your professor said it is, I'll bet that these newer books make reference to it. Once you know the actual title, check amazon again to see if it's in or out of print. If it's out of print go to www.addall.com and search for it in the used book section. Addall.com is a search engine for books. It searches the inventory of various bookstores to find the book you are interested in.

Just in case you can't find the book you want, it's possible that one of the books carried by amazon will meet your needs.
