Are there any bands on par or better than Dream Theater?

I want to know are there any bands that can play as well as Dream Theater. Same concept, style and technicality.

Musically, I would say the solo work by Devin Townsend. Most of his stuff are pretty good especially his 1998 album "Infinity." Though his solo albums are quite hard to find.

If you're talking about both vocals and music, then you have to really dig around to find works by Superior. Their stuff are almost identical to Dream Theaters IMO. But like Devin Townsend's solo stuff, their albums are hard to find, probably even harder to find here in the States.

But honestly, in today's music industry, overwhlemed by these kid's bands like chemical romance and AFI and such that consist of youngsters who can't play anything well, it's very hard to find any good bands that are able to play up to prog metal's standards... let alone Dream Theater's level of expertise.

According to my friend, no.
It would be hard to find a band as good as dream theater in the progressive metal genre.

But of bands that people consider progressive I love queensryche, opeth, and Devon Townsend.

A lot of people love dillinger escape plan but I'm not a big fan.
Finnish band group "Nightwish"

Dutch band group "Within temptation"
Porcupine Tree and Opeth are on the same level as Dream Theater, I mean all three band's member have worked with each other before so they have had some sort of influence on each other.
