Can I add extra speakers to a 5.1 home theater?

I want to add speakers on the patio connected to my home theater. Is this possible if there are only 6 speaker outputs on the back of the receiver?

You could but you would have to purchase either a Speaker selector or Impedance matching volume controls. Your best bet is to get a speaker selector that has impedance matching built in. Connect your two front speaker leads from the receiver to the in of the speaker selector and then connect the 5.1 front speakers to "A" on the selector and the patio speakers to "B" on the selector. This will allow you to listen to music in both places at the same time with out clipping your receiver. When you want to just listen in one location select that one and deselect the other. Below is a nice unit from two very reliable companies. You could get one for less at Radio Shack, maybe. But $100 and a few feet of speaker wire I think you would be very happy with the out come.

Good Luck

you can hook them up in line with your existing speakers (the same output), but the power will be less and they will always be on onthe patio
What you'll want to do is get a speaker selector box. What you do is hook the speaker selector to the front channels on your reciever, and then your front channels and patio speakers to the selector. then you can play the 5.1, or play the outside speakers, or play both at the same time.
